Enhancing Connection and Impact: CLLCTIVLY’s Triumph in Black Philanthropy
In every corner of society, there exist leaders and groups of Black origin who are creating meaningful change and bridging essential gaps. Yet, recognizing and financially supporting these organizations, especially when you’re not part of the local community, can be challenging. One organization in Baltimore, CLLCTIVLY, is revolutionizing this dynamic by establishing seamless connections between donors and Black-led groups that are driving racial and social justice initiatives. During this Black Philanthropy Month, we delve into how CLLCTIVLY is not only promoting a sense of purpose among Black donors but also spotlighting the impactful work undertaken by Black-led entities.
Empowering Through Black Philanthropy Month
For CLLCTIVLY, Black Philanthropy Month isn’t just symbolic—it’s a transformative opportunity. It’s a chance to inspire ongoing contributions from Black donors and to shine a light on the endeavors of Black-led organizations and projects that are effecting change. The response from Black communities to this initiative has been both enthusiastic and profound.
CLLCTGIVE’s Remarkable Achievement
An exceptional manifestation of this effort is CLLCTGIVE, an initiative under CLLCTIVLY’s banner. This year, on its fifth annual day of giving, CLLCTGIVE accomplished an extraordinary feat by amassing an astounding $1,125,707 in just 24 hours. The impact of this achievement goes beyond the financial realm—it resonates with the organization’s mission to support and uplift Black-led initiatives.
Founder’s Perspective
Jamye Wooten, the visionary founder and CEO of CLLCTIVLY, describes this momentous achievement as groundbreaking. It’s not just a triumph for Black philanthropy; it solidifies the organization’s dedication to fostering sustainable solutions for societal progress. This fundraising event will reverberate through Black-led communities for years to come, leaving an indelible mark on the journey towards equity and empowerment.
CLLCTIVGIVE: A Multifaceted Initiative
Taking place on August 4th, CLLCTGIVE encompassed more than fundraising. It introduced a platform that seamlessly connected donors with Black-led groups. The event also featured a compelling speaker series, an awards ceremony, and the launch of the Solidarity Awards in partnership with the Elbow Fund. It’s an embodiment of CLLCTIVLY’s mission—a place-based entity guided by a framework emphasizing racial equity, narrative transformation, social connectedness, and resource mobilization.
Reshaping Grant Dynamics
One of CLLCTIVLY’s distinguishing features is its commitment to providing no-strings-attached grants. This approach is pivotal because it recognizes the challenges faced by small groups burdened with demanding reporting requirements. These demands can be particularly overwhelming for Black-led groups dealing with long-standing issues of racial, social, and climate injustice. By offering a realistic and supportive avenue for financial assistance, CLLCTIVLY sets a benchmark for accessible funding that empowers Black-led groups.
A Vision Beyond Extractive Capital
James Wahls, the founder of the REVOLVE Fund, aptly noted that the burden of success often rests upon entrepreneurs of color, while systemic barriers persist. Unlike extractive capital that can compound financial stress, CLLCTIVLY’s grants, much like those from the REVOLVE Fund, represent compassionate capital tailored to the needs of Black-led groups.
Sustained Growth and Impact
Since its inception, CLLCTGIVE has garnered unwavering support from individual donors, businesses, foundations, and community partners. The campaign’s growth trajectory has been remarkable, starting from raising $5,000 in its inaugural year to surpassing the $1 million mark in its fifth year.
Empowering Donors Through CLLCTGIVE
The CLLCTGIVE platform transcends mere donation; it offers a diverse array of Black-led organizations, each diligently addressing crucial issues and striving for lasting change in their communities. Donors aren’t just contributing financially; they’re virtually meeting the visionary leaders spearheading these transformative campaigns.
CLLCTIVGIVE is not merely about breaking fundraising records. It’s a clarion call that resonates with bonds of community, local leadership, and empowerment. As we navigate the landscape of funding for Black-led social change endeavors, the journey is underscored by partnership, not paternalism. The narrative of change is being redefined, amplified, and transformed, all thanks to entities like CLLCTIVLY.
