Changing lives often starts with changing the environment those lives are located, and in the next few years, the city of East St. Louis in Illinois is poised to experience a major shift and facelift. 31-year-old real estate developer from Kalamazoo, Michigan Howard Hughes III has marked East St Louis as the next destination for him and his team to upgrade with their expertise, experience and investment.
The city is set to receive a boost with an $800 million development and master plan, which cover three important phases that will mark significant improvement and development for the citizens. The first phase of the development plan will see between 25 and 50 homes and two new hotels spring up. In the second phase, the CBD Central Business District will be developed to feature shops, downtown lofts, restaurants and various forms of entertainment. The third phase of the development will feature the redevelopment of East St. Louis’ most precious and treasured parcel of land, the Riverfront.
Key stakeholders have expressed their excitement and joy at the partnership with Howard Hughes III and his team of builders like Clayco, HBD and others that will be involved in the project. The ultimate goal of the partnership is to build East St. Louis into a state-of-the-art smart city that will have different features such as a solar farm, solar home and city-wide Internet of Things (IoT) while creating green and renewable energy. East St. Louis is the first predominantly African-American urban community to experience this type of growth, and it is something worth looking towards.
Howard Hughes III prides himself as a real estate developer who goes into areas that need development to open them up, develop them and turn them into hubs of opportunities. He has been at the center of numerous city developments creating tens of thousands of job opportunities for the citizens, keeping the cities thriving through entertainment and keeping numerous businesses open to generate enough tax dollars to run the city.
Explaining why he chose East St. Louis City, he said: “I want to see this city win. Everyone keeps asking me why but from my view, I think there is so much potential here in East St. Louis. Currently, the city is pretty much a blank canvas. We have an outstanding view of downtown St. Louis and the Arch while being less than 3 minutes away. This is prime real estate, and the citizens of East St. Louis have been waiting for something of this magnitude. I am just thankful I am in a position to spearhead this very large development. I believe we will make it work; so, let’s do it.”
Over the years, Howard Hughes III has done so much work that many other real estate developers can only dream of matching. He said seeing how much he inspires many others in the business motivates and inspires him to take things to the next level, and that’s exactly what he’s doing with his upcoming projects. In a few years, he hopes to see East St. Louis thriving with thousands of jobs, quality education, great entertainment, good roads, safe homes to live and a city that takes adequate care of its youths.Learn more about Howard Hughes III on his website.
