That simple moment fueled Dr. Shellie’s commitment to building a better future for those who need it most. In Kenya, the Global Sisterhood transformed a rundown shed into a bright, vibrant Early Childhood Learning Center. “We painted the words ‘Come Play with Me’ on the front,” Dr. Shellie recalls. The children’s handprints on the mural became a symbol of hope—a reminder of how small, collective actions can create monumental changes.
But Dr. Shellie’s work stretches far beyond Africa. In Pakistan, the Global Sisterhood I’m collaboration with other sources, helped to fund the construction of a school for girls who had previously learned in the courtyard of Sister Zeph’s home. In a region plagued by issues like child marriage and honor killings, this new school serves as a shining example of opportunity and empowerment for young girls striving to access education. “These girls used to learn without electricity,” Dr. Shellie shares. “Now, they have a solid school where they can dream of a better future.”
A Fashionable Way to Empower: Dr. Shellie’s Style Swap
Dr. Shellie’s passion for empowerment isn’t limited to nonprofits and entrepreneurship; it also extends into the world of fashion. In addition to her Style Swap initiative, Dr. Shellie offers entrepreneurial guidance through her EmpowerU Master Class, supporting numerous women in overcoming challenges and starting businesses that reflect their passions. “Creating a business that feels authentic to you is the key to not only success but fulfillment,” she explains. The Master Class equips women with the confidence, tools, and resources to take their dreams and turn them into reality.
“I teach women to dream big, embrace delegation, and design a business model that fits their lives,” Dr. Shellie shares. “Through EmpowerU, women go from feeling stuck and overwhelmed to confidently launching businesses that not only thrive but reflect their true purpose.”
Recognition and Legacy: A Legacy of Empowerment
As Dr. Shellie’s influence grows, so too does the recognition she receives. In 2023, she was awarded the Presidential Lifetime Achievement Award for her over 4,000 hours of volunteer service. Her work has earned her numerous accolades, including being named a Top 10 Inspiring Woman Worldwide and one of the Most Influential Female Entrepreneurship Coaches.
“It’s about creating a legacy that helps others,” she says. “Recognition is rewarding, but the real success is knowing you’ve made a lasting impact.”
Her advocacy for diversity and inclusion is particularly evident in her work with Inspiring Lives International and her leadership of the Global Sisterhood.
