An internationally recognized plastic surgeon in Dubai on aesthetic trends, the power of social media, and the Ultra-Thin Seam™ technique he developed.
These days, beauty trends are set not by glossy covers but by social-media feeds. More and more, stars and influencers are choosing one surgeon, Dr. Vardan Khachatrian, an internationally recognized specialist in Dubai’s aesthetic medicine. Over more than twenty years in practice, tens of thousands of patients from four continents have placed their trust in him, and his signature Ultra-Thin Seam™ technique is built around natural, discreet results. We spoke with Dr. Vardan about stars, new trends, and how influencers are reshaping an entire industry.
Dr. Vardan, how have social media and influencers changed plastic surgery? Radically. Surgeons used to be found by word of mouth; today it’s through photos and stories. Influencers made the subject open and the demand global: a patient sees a result on their phone and wants the same. But the bar has risen with it. A fake is obvious on camera, so only truly natural work is valued.

What’s trending right now thanks to the stars?
The main trend is to look like yourself, only better. No more “overdone” faces. The demand has shifted toward naturalness, toward the Skinny BBL without implants or fillers, toward subtle rejuvenation. People want a result that the camera doesn’t expose. That is exactly the philosophy behind my Ultra-Thin Seam™ technique, which aims for results that are hard to detect.
Why do stars and influencers choose you specifically?
They need several things at once: a natural result, a scar that’s almost invisible, confidentiality, and a fast recovery. The Ultra-Thin Seam™ is designed to support clean, predictable healing, with the goal of a smoother return to normal life. And of course, I never discuss my patients. For public figures, discretion is part of the result.
You’re hard to get to, with a closed practice and a waiting list. What’s behind that demand?
The demand was born from results. When patients see natural-looking work, they tell one another, and over the years, that builds a reputation money can’t buy. Today, people come to me from every continent, and yes, getting in isn’t easy. But behind it is a simple principle: I take on a patient only when I’m confident in the result.
For influencers, recovery speed is critical. They live on camera.
Exactly. The method is designed for predictable healing and a fine, discreet scar. The more precise the preparation and the surgery, the faster and calmer the recovery, without the long downtime that would otherwise have to be explained. For those who live by a schedule of shoots and content, that changes everything.
Which procedures are most in demand among this audience?
The range is broad. Breast augmentation, breast lift (mastopexy), and breast reconstruction; the Skinny BBL and Brazilian Butt Lift; liposuction and signature body liposculpture; abdominoplasty (tummy tuck) and the mommy makeover after childbirth; facelift and surgical facial rejuvenation. And separately, revision surgery. People often come to me to correct someone else’s work, including operations done while chasing a trend.
Your advice for someone inspired by social media who’s considering surgery?
Don’t chase a trend. Choose what suits you. A good surgeon is revealed by the ability to correct the difficult, not by a follower count. And remember: the best work is the work no one notices, even on camera.
Today, Dr. Vardan Khachatrian focuses largely on complex and revision cases, working with an international clientele that includes public figures who value discretion. Consultations are available by appointment at Valiant Clinic & Hospital in Dubai.
