By 2020, McChesney had climbed the ranks to become a key account manager at ResMed and a leader in CPAP devices. He had transformed his territory’s revenue from $15 million to $25 million, earning multiple awards. However, the constant travel was taking its toll. “I was burnt out,” he admits. “I was striving for freedom and looking for ways to make money without the endless travel.”

This desire for freedom led him to explore the world of digital marketing. In 2018, McChesney invested $7,000 in a course on rank and rent marketing—a method of building and renting out digital assets. It was a leap of faith that would set the stage for his next big venture. Initially, balancing his new business with his demanding sales job proved challenging. “I was doing sales, account management, fulfillment, project management—all of it,” he says. “It was overwhelming.”

Determined to succeed, McChesney joined a mastermind community in 2020 and began building a personal brand. “People started reaching out, asking for websites, SEO services, and paid ads,” he explains. This strategic move paid off, with his agency experiencing rapid growth. “We went from $30,000 to $100,000 a month in recurring revenue in six months,” he proudly states. “It was massive growth.”

McChesney’s approach to building his agency was innovative. He emphasized the importance of hiring the right talent and implementing efficient processes. “I was really good at finding talented people in areas I was weak in,” he notes. “I hired W2 employees, offered 100% medical benefits, and a 401k match program.” This strategic approach paid off, with his agency hitting $200,000 in monthly recurring revenue by the end of 2022.

In November 2023, McChesney launched Builders of Authority, a program designed to help entrepreneurs leverage personal branding to grow their businesses. “I shared my blueprint of how I went from zero to seven figures in 15 months with personal branding,” he says. The response was overwhelming, with many attendees reporting significant business transformations.

One such attendee, Barry Nix, credits McChesney’s presentation with changing his life. “He went from almost going out of business to becoming the guy for garage door repair digital marketing,” McChesney shares. This success story is just one of many that highlight the impact of his approach.

Despite his business success, McChesney’s journey is deeply personal. The birth of his son, Murphy, in 2023 inspired him to focus on building a sustainable and impactful business. “If I don’t go bet on myself and do what I know I need to do, then I’m not living up to who I am,” he reflects. “I’d rather go through the pain, the suffering, the anxiety, the stress, the emotional roller coaster, knowing that on the other side, there’s going to be some incredible things.”

McChesney’s commitment to his values is evident in the success of Builders of Authority and the impact he continues to have on the digital marketing landscape. “Entrepreneurship is the greatest personal and self-development journey you’ll ever go on,” he says. His dedication to authenticity, accountability, and continuous learning sets him apart in an industry often criticized for outdated strategies and lack of transparency.

Looking to the future, McChesney is focused on expanding Builders of Authority and exploring new opportunities. “We’re building something very special,” he says. “It’s not overly sexy. It’s not the magic pill. But the people that show up and continue to pour into themselves and others on social media with the help of our program will be the ones at the heads of certain industries, innovating and doing things others aren’t willing to do.”

McChesney’s approach to business is refreshingly honest and grounded in real-world experience. “The digital marketing space is notorious for rinsing and repeating outdated strategies,” he observes. “I focused on what our clients were asking for and how we could make their experience better.” This client-centric approach, combined with his sales expertise and personal branding strategy, has positioned him as a leader in the digital marketing industry.
