The pandemic has had adverse effects on many facets of life, on people’s relationships, most especially. Many films and videos have been released to demonstrate how much social interaction has changed over the years. For anyone who wants to learn more about the state of one’s soul and how it interacts with other people, The Unfollow Movie by Mark Worch should definitely be on their radar.
“#UNFOLLOW” is a film that follows director and filmmaker Mark Worch as he starts a social media fast to cleanse his body, mind, and soul. Through the film, he speaks with social media influencers, Hollywood actors, and health professionals about the cultural change in relationships and social media. Mark goes through many topics like betrayal, depression, money, and sex, among many other things.
The film aims to raise awareness of social media’s harm to relationships. Moreover, it offers many essential tips and practices to help people manage their social media consumption. Even though social media is a tool that can connect, more people are becoming isolated from loved ones because of it. Mark hopes “#UNFOLLOW” will encourage others to seek real connections outside of the bounds of digital media.
Mark shares how the film was also an enjoyable experience for him. “I was shocked how quickly people were willing to open up about their struggles with social media,” Mark said in an interview. A dynamic American businessman interested in philanthropy and business, Mark Worch has had deep desires for filmmaking for a long time. Even though he lacks experience, he has not wavered from pursuing his passion and mission to open people’s eyes to the perils of social media and the pandemic.
Mark began filming in August 2019, but his film career began in 2018 when he started his YouTube channel. Then he started making short movies, financial advice videos, and vlogs. He decided to take on the challenge of producing his own self-funded documentary feature film. The filmmaker currently owns Colombian Coffee House, a new coffee franchise start-up in Downtown Delray Beach. He also currently holds a real estate company and has a commercial real estate value worth more than $1 billion.
The director’s film career did not begin smoothly. One of the biggest difficulties was handling all aspects of filming, audio, post-production, and conducting all of the interviews by himself. Jarrad Noah, a close friend and director, joined Mark and handled color grading and sound effects for the film. Additionally, he worked with an animation studio from Puebla, Mexico, to add animated storytelling to the movie.
Additionally, Mark handled all of the casting and interview scheduling efforts for the movie independently. He put in the effort to contact social media influencers and request their participation in the movie. He then gained access to their personal networks and secured talent for the movie.
Most people responded pretty quickly because of their interest in the film. He even had to decline a few requests from people who wanted to be in the movie. Celebrity Chad Johnson, best known for the television program “The Bachelorette,” was also a part of the documentary.
Today, Mark is starting preliminary research for his next project as he plans to seek financing for his next documentary film.
