The Brawl at MTV VMAs: Conor McGregor and Machine Gun Kelly Get Into a Fight on the Red Carpet

Source: Entertainment Weekly

At least no bruises came out from the supposed “brawl.”

UFC star Conor McGregor and singer Machine Gun Kelly got into an altercation Sunday night that nearly turned physical.

McGregor and Kelly both attended the highly anticipated MTV Video Music Awards red carpet at Barclays Center in Brooklyn, along with their significant others, fiance Dee Devlin and actress Megan Fox.

As seen in a lot of videos posted on the internet, Conor McGregor began lunging at Machine Gun Kelly, who was held back by security and his girlfriend, actress Megan Fox. Seconds later, McGregor was escorted away, but more videos show McGregor throwing his cocktail drink at the “Bloody Valentine” rapper and singer.

It is unclear how the altercation started, and neither of the parties is willing to explain this unlikely event.

However, in a TMZ report, Conor McGregor allegedly walked up to Machine Gun Kelly to greet him hello. The latter said something inaudible, and Kelly’s security then attempted to push McGregor away from the singer. The UFC star took offense to that unwelcoming gesture, which caused the situation to escalate.

Although an initial report of TMZ stated that Conor McGregor went to Kelly to ask for a photo and Kelly declined, McGregor’s spokesperson, Karen Kessler, denied the truth of the statement in an interview with ESPN.

“Conor McGregor did not ask anyone for a picture, nor did he instigate this incident,” Kessler wrote in the statement. “He does not know Machine Gun Kelly, outside of the fact that he attended Conor’s fight this past July,” she added.

Along with this outright denial, Conor McGregor attempted to downplay the situation in an interview with Entertainment Tonight, saying, “I just showed up,” and “I do not know what happened.”

“Nothing happened [to] me,” McGregor said. “I only fight real fighters. People that actually fight. I certainly don’t fight little Vanilla Ice white rappers. I don’t even know the guy, don’t know anything about him except that he’s with Megan Fox,” he added.

As seen in his photos during the event, Conor McGregor walks with a cane as he is currently rehabilitating a broken leg. He suffered the injury at UFC 264 held last July 10 during his fight with Dustin Poirier, an event that Kelly attended with Fox at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.

Although Conor McGregor, who is currently the biggest star in UFC history, is the first fighter to ever hold a record for garnering two belts from different weight divisions at the same time, he has had several run-ins with the law, including one at Barclays Center. In April 2018, McGregor, along with 20 men, stormed the Barclays loading dock after a UFC media day in search of McGregor’s rival, Khabib Nurmagomedov. During that altercation, McGregor recklessly threw a metal dolly to a bus filled with UFC fighters. Because of that incident, the fighter was charged with assault and criminal mischief.

As to Machine Gun Kelly’s side of that unfortunate incident during the VMAs, he refused to comment in an interview with Variety, during which Megan Fox corroborated with a statement that they are “not allowed to say.”
