Trials and Tribulations Lead Single Mom to Found Eat Beauty Makeup

Danielle Brown, founder of cosmetic brand, Eat Beauty, knows a thing or two about walking through doors of opportunity when she thought they were closed to her.  She is a former professional dancer who has toured with some of the biggest names in music, a dance teacher whose students still keep in touch, and she has worked on multiple big-budget Hollywood products as a makeup artist. And while that may sound like an easy path to success, Danielle has experienced struggle.

Danielle Brown, better known among her peers as Danny B is a licensed cosmetologist and single mother of two teenagers, the eldest of whom was diagnosed with autism, and the youngest has ADHD. The task of being a single parent is often a challenging one, and with her children’s conditions, Danny often felt she had a mountain to climb splitting her time and energy between being present for her kids and working in the corporate world.

With doctor’s appointments, daycare and school, college classes, and a bustling work schedule, Danny was stretched in every direction. Eventually, she lost her job, but when that door closed, she realized another one opened that allowed her to spend more time with her boys. When her son’s behavior issues started to increase, Danny was able to stay present and be a parent. “It was mandatory that I attend school with him for half days, so I had to drop out of college to go to school with him every day,” she explained.

While she concentrated on parenting during the day, Danny worked as a waitress at night to pay the bills. “I felt my life was stuck in neutral,” she added. Every day was groundhog day for her. Looking to break the cycle, Danny sought a relationship with God. After so many prayers, He responded by sending people requesting beauty services.

“They would offer to pay, and I would decline until I took a moment and accepted the signs,” Danny explained. “I decided to go to cosmetology school, and that’s when the doors of opportunity opened.”

With just two years of makeup experience, Danny worked for “Black Girls Rock” on BET. Although there were some highs on the road, Danny would also hit some lows; losing her place, moving to a one-bedroom apartment with her dad and sister; and she thought she wouldn’t be able to graduate because of her schedule. Fortunately, one of her former dance student’s mothers was open to picking up her boys after school. Although it was a huge risk, everything worked out for the best, and she has grown into one of  Danny’s most faithful clients.

Danny created Eat Beauty in 2014 after she earned her cosmetology and esthetician licenses, providing hair care, waxing, and skincare services. She also offers a variety of products  – some of which are handmade by her – that include lip products, hair oils, body butter, and body scrubs. Danny has grown Eat Beauty into a well-known brand with a large following and expanding client list..

After having overcome so many obstacles in her life, Danny is optimistic about her future. She sees Eat Beauty growing into a franchise opportunity for other women in states across the U.S. and serving as a coach to help aspiring entrepreneurs build their brands and their dreams. At the same time, Danny aims to make Eat Beauty a household name.Learn more about Danielle Brown and Eat Beauty by visiting her official website and following Eat Beauty on Instagram.
