Dee Rivera Never Waited for a Seat at the Table, She Built the Runway Instead

From publishing and PR to Latinista, Hamptons Fashion Week and Times Square Fashion Week, Dee Rivera has turned influence into opportunity.

There are influencers who build audiences.

Then there are entrepreneurs who build platforms for other people to be seen.

Dee Rivera belongs to the second category.

For decades, Rivera has operated at the intersection of fashion, media, culture and entrepreneurship. She is the Founder and CEO of DCG Media Group, founder of Latinista, creator of Hamptons Fashion Week® and Times Square Fashion Week®, and author of Glambition: Knocking Down Walls in Heels.

Her career offers a different definition of influence.

For Rivera, influence is not simply measured by followers.

It is measured by what you create with your platform.

Rivera began her career in editorial fashion and publishing, gaining experience with magazines including Modern Bride, Essence and Latina.

Those years taught her how fashion stories are shaped and how emerging names become recognized ones.

She eventually moved into public relations, where she discovered another side of influence: the ability to connect the right person, brand or story with the right audience.

But Rivera wanted to go further.

She wanted ownership.

That instinct led to the creation of businesses and platforms where she could decide what stories to tell and which creative voices to elevate.

Latinista became one of those spaces.

Fashion Week became another.

Through Hamptons Fashion Week, Rivera created an environment where luxury lifestyle, designers, media and experiential marketing could converge.

With Times Square Fashion Week, she brought fashion directly into the public eye.

Times Square is one of the world’s great stages. Tourists, New Yorkers, digital screens, entertainment and global brands compete for attention every minute.

Putting fashion in that environment changes the relationship between the runway and the audience.

The public becomes part of the experience.

That democratization of fashion is consistent with Rivera’s broader approach.

She has continually worked to give emerging designers and entrepreneurs visibility alongside established industry figures.

In that sense, Rivera has become an influencer of opportunities.

She creates rooms.

She creates runways.

She creates media.

She creates introductions.

And increasingly, she creates intellectual property that can expand beyond her personally.

Her position as a Latina entrepreneur adds another layer to that story.

Representation is powerful when audiences see someone who reflects their background succeeding.

But representation becomes transformational when that person owns the platform.

Rivera’s career demonstrates the difference.

She isn’t simply appearing within fashion culture.

She is producing it.

She isn’t simply being interviewed by media.

She founded media.

She isn’t simply attending Fashion Week.

She created Fashion Week properties.

That distinction is particularly meaningful for young Latina entrepreneurs looking at industries where leadership has historically lacked broad representation.

Rivera’s message is embedded directly in the title of her book, Knocking Down Walls in Heels.

You can be ambitious without abandoning your identity.

You can be creative and commercial.

You can build businesses while creating opportunities for others.

And you do not always have to wait for someone else to recognize your value.

Sometimes you create the stage yourself.

With ambitions to expand her brands and vision globally, Rivera’s next era may be her largest yet.

Because after years of creating platforms for other people to be seen, Dee Rivera is increasingly stepping into the spotlight as something else entirely: the brand behind the brands.
