In a world where the pursuit of success often leaves high achievers grappling with stress, anxiety, and burnout, one therapist is making waves with a transformative approach to mental and emotional health. Emma Ruiz, a holistic transformational mental and emotional health expert—with a focus on psychotherapy and Gestalt Therapy—combines deep therapeutic processes with lifestyle adjustments to guide her clients from states of overwhelm to joy and alignment.
Emma’s professional evolution is a compelling testament to her dedication to collective well-being. Beginning her career as an educator, she quickly became aware of the profound impact emotional health has on learning and personal development. This realization prompted her to delve deeper into the human psyche, earning a diploma in Gestalt Therapy from the Gestalt Institute in Barcelona—a move that marked a significant pivot in her career towards psychotherapy.
Her education, enriched by additional certifications in mindfulness and holistic nutrition, reflects a holistic approach to therapy that is rare and needed in today’s fragmented world. Emma’s work, deeply rooted in her educational background, showcases her commitment to addressing not just the symptoms but the root causes of anxiety, offering her clients a pathway to a more connected and successful life. Through her unique lens as both educator and therapist, Emma has developed a program, THRIVE! that stands as a vanguard of holistic mental health care, merging the science of psychology with the art of healing.
In this exclusive interview, Emma shares insights into her journey, the unique methodologies she employs, and how taking responsibility for our inner world can lead to a life of success and fulfillment.
Q: Can you share a bit about your journey into becoming a Holistic Transformational Mental and Emotional Health Expert?
A: Absolutely. My journey began with a deep personal quest for meaning beyond the daily grind. The profound impact of self-help and spirituality books, especially ‘The Celestine Prophecy,’ opened my eyes to a new perspective on life. This led to my own therapeutic journey and the realization that my true calling was to help others heal and thrive, not through nutrition as I initially thought, but through holistic therapy.
Q: What challenges did you face as you transitioned careers and how did you overcome them?
A: Transitioning careers was daunting, especially moving from a well-established path in education to starting anew in therapy. The biggest hurdle was building my reputation as an expert. Working with my mentor, Heather Burgett, was pivotal in refining my approach to reach and resonate with my ideal clients effectively.
Q: You emphasize the importance of addressing mental, emotional, and lifestyle factors together. Why is this approach critical?
A: Our wellbeing is intricately tied to not just our thoughts and emotions but also how we live our daily lives. From what we eat to how we move and who we spend time with, every aspect influences our mental and emotional state. I believe in addressing all these factors to create a holistic healing process that not only alleviates symptoms but transforms lives.
Q: Humor and joy play a significant role in your therapy sessions. How do they contribute to the healing process?
A: Healing doesn’t have to be a solemn process. Humor lightens the heart and can make challenging moments more bearable. It allows us to connect with our life force, reminding us that joy and laughter are essential parts of our journey to wellness.
Q: Can you share a success story that exemplifies the impact of your work?
A: One of my clients, a senior professor and TEDx speaker, came to me struggling with perfectionism and impostor syndrome. Through our work together, he learned to appreciate his achievements, set healthy boundaries, and ultimately find validation from within rather than through external accolades. Witnessing his transformation from anxiety and burnout to embracing a new career path as a Gestalt therapist himself was incredibly rewarding.
Q: Looking forward, where do you see your practice going? What are your aspirations?
A: I envision myself continuing to be a reference in the field of Mental and Emotional Health, reaching more people globally through my in-person and virtual programs and retreats. My dream is to create a world where individuals understand the power of inner work and take responsibility for their healing and happiness.
Q: Finally, for those interested in beginning their journey with you, what’s the best way to get started?
