From Code to Words: The Journey of Lania Rivamonte from Computer Science to Writing

By: Vanilla Heart Publishing

As an experienced project manager, Lania Rivamonte mapped complex systems, managed teams, and implemented infrastructure projects. She now uses that accuracy to write forgotten historical accounts, notably wartime women’s experiences. In her literary debut, Rivamonte highlights the bravery of WAVEs (Women Accepted for Volunteer Emergency Service), WACs (Women’s Army Corps), and WASPs (Women Airforce Service Pilots) during World War II, telling stories of resolve, fortitude, and unsung valor.

Lania Rivamonte excelled in computer science for two decades, a field of perpetual innovation and high-stakes problem-solving. She managed teams designing sophisticated systems for government organizations, including traffic control and emergency infrastructure work in the U.S. and other countries. Her system designs offered vital data on automobile traffic patterns and utility management, from bridge sites to guardrail positions. These systems were used to support military operations. Rivamonte also worked on infrastructure in Kuwait, which was significant given geopolitical difficulties. One situation of note was the Kuwaitis’ use of their infrastructure plans and maps in recovering from the huge number of oilwell fires set by the Iraqis.

Her technological background shaped her writing as much as her skills. She says her project management expertise informs her ordered and thorough storytelling style. Rivamonte’s analytical approach gives her work a solid sincerity that is rare. She writes thorough, exact stories with the rigor she learned in designing software systems, which sets her apart in literature. After retiring, she turned to writing to highlight unsung heroes. While humbly discussing her writing experience, she calls herself a “newbie writer,” saying she’s driven to tell stories. Her quiet demeanor betrays her love for storytelling and dedication to uplifting historically overlooked voices.

She concentrates on wartime women’s experiences because she wants to tell untold stories and real-life accounts. Rivamonte highlights the perseverance and determination of women who, albeit excluded from battle, continued the military effort. She enjoys voicing these unsung heroes and is dedicated to their task. Rivamonte’s first book examines World War II female military divisions, WAVEs, WACs, and WASPs.These women filled male positions from administrative assistance to aircraft flying, a fact seldom mentioned in historical texts. Rivamonte documents their contributions to fill a vacuum in history and better understand the various efforts behind one of the most prominent wars.

Rivamonte had distinct challenges researching these professions. Careful research of archives, interviews, and original materials were needed to distinguish reality from fiction. Some of these interviews were conducted with her father, who was an actual WW2 veteran and was part of the post-war occupation, along with the family. Rivamonte describes the diverse struggles of women in World War II’s quieter but crucial front lines in her book. From assembly halls to the sky, these women were essential but often unnoticed, supporting efforts far from combat glory. Rivamonte feels their experiences are important to today’s readers for historical significance and to demonstrate women’s power and competence.

Rivamonte said in a recent interview that she thinks her book would help men and women see military history differently. She asserts that understanding these positions transforms our view of the past and modern women’s duties. Rivamonte says, “These women fought battles of their own, not with weapons, but with resilience and dedication that held the war efforts together.” Rivamonte’s storytelling blends personal stories with historical facts to depict these women’s lives. The book puts readers in the shoes of people who balanced extraordinary responsibility with the obstacles of war. She hopes readers will appreciate these women’s efforts and accomplishments, a recognition she says is long overdue.

Rivamonte sees this work as the start of a bigger quest to showcase women’s subtle but vital contributions throughout history. Her future work will examine women’s roles in various conflicts and civilian crisis response. Rivamonte loves recounting women’s stories because of her own experience and her desire to inspire others.

Rivamonte says, “I want readers to understand that history is rich with stories of bravery that go beyond the front lines. These women who sacrificed while being excluded by traditional perceptions have much to teach us.” Rivamonte hopes to continue highlighting unexplored themes that relate to readers of various backgrounds, combining her technology and historical backgrounds.

Her IT professional skills inspire her approach. “Project managers are trained to look at every detail and build systems that last,” she says. She writes to tell stories that, like her technological initiatives, are current, accessible, and evocative. Lania Rivamonte’s transition from computer science to writing shows her adaptability and purpose. She smoothly incorporates her careful, analytical approach from her infrastructure project management career into her story. Rivamonte’s distinctive style blends history, empathy, and brutal detail as she writes about women’s wartime responsibilities.

Her writing enhances literature and challenges readers to reconsider established perceptions or perspectives. Rivamonte’s dedication to recognizing military women reveals their unseen efforts, typically eclipsed by combat heroics. She plays a significant role in shaping history by amplifying voices that celebrate women’s strength, resilience, and contributions, extending her influence beyond her technical career.

Rivamonte says, “This is just the beginning.” She plans to continue uncovering these hidden stories in future initiatives to help readers understand how women have affected history. Lania Rivamonte writes about historical events and urges a new generation to honor women’s contributions.
