If there’s one thing that has always been a constant in Lanita Smith’s life, it’s music. She has been expressing herself musically through art since birth, and today, she is ready to set a bigger course for her God-given talent. Originally from Memphis, TN, the artist is fired up to conquer the rest of the world.
From singing at her local church, Lanita Smith has continually left audiences in awe as she conquered bigger stages with confidence and authority. The singer-songwriter has performed on Jimmy Kimmel Live and some of the biggest stages across the globe, including Coachella, Jackson’s R&B Festival, The Troubadour, Hotel Cafe, and more. She was handpicked by Don Was as the winner of Guitar Center’s Singer-Songwriter 4.
Furthermore, Lanita Smith is determined to learn from the best the music industry has to offer. As a member of the LA Chapter of the Recording Academy, Lanita met her mentor, songwriter Maureen McDonald, better known as Mozilla.
Throughout her career, Lanita Smith has worked with some of the brightest music icons in the music scene, both award-winning artists and producers alike. Rico Nasty, Ty Dolla $ign, Kanye West, Jessica Sanchez, Starrah, Chance the Rapper, and Teddy Riley, to name a few. In addition, the artist co-founded Little Monarch with Casey Kalmenson, the artist behind the hit single “No Matter What,” with over 22.5 million streams on Spotify.
Storytelling is one of her biggest passions, and it always came naturally for her. “My goal is always to make music that’s relatable regardless if I am the artist singing on the record or just the songwriter,” explained Lanita Smith. The artist is allowing her creativity to bridge the gap between herself and listeners. Lanita aims to create music that will stand the test of time, surpassing the boundaries of generations, and will always be relatable for people regardless of the era they are from.
“I’m just a little country girl with a dream of writing stories through music,” shared Lanita Smith. “Music has always healed and been timeless to me. When people hear my music, I want them to feel like it’s an experience they’ll never forget. Being able to live in the moment, to be myself, with my family, and just wanting it more than anything is what motivates me every day to get out of bed and grind,” the artist explained further.
Unlike many artists in the music industry, Lanita Smith does not strive to beat others in the race. Instead, she focuses on bettering herself and her music, aiming to become the best authentic version of herself. Hence, the artist is driven to get up every day to work on areas that she feels need improvement and constantly keeps herself in check of what she can do to make her music more beautiful than her last. In fact, the singer-songwriter shared that she is currently brewing up new music, set to release soon.
“The road is never easy, but it’s worth it,” said Lanita Smith. “Our struggles are what makes us great. We all have obstacles along the way to reaching our full potential or greatness, but these come to make us stronger. For me, my music is meant to always bring people together.”
