There are stories of reinvention, and then there is the journey of Tasha-Nicole Terani, better known in the sports world as TNT. Her life orbits around a 360° transformation, from a young girl exploring the glitzy modeling world, to an eight-time Guinness World Record holder in soccer ball control, to an internationally celebrated children’s author.
Her success as an author is mainly attributed to A Tree for Me, a multicultural, poetic children’s story that has won hearts around the world. Praised as a Teachers’ Pick and liked by classrooms for its gentle lessons in empathy, inclusivity, and environmental care, the book is a mirror for self-reflection.
Its pages follow a symbolic path in which a tree becomes a metaphor for the love, care, and respect we must first give ourselves before we can offer it to the world. The inspiration behind A Tree for Me originates from Terani’s own experiences. Having pursued multiple careers, both figuratively and literally, she understands the importance of nurturing inner strength. Born in Tehran, Iran, and raised in Westlake Village, California, she was exposed early to the richness of cultural diversity.
Before she became an author, Terani’s life took a very different course. At just 14, she entered the modeling industry and quickly found herself traveling between New York, Los Angeles, and Atlanta. Her work with brands, along with features in Sports Illustrated and Time Magazine, gave her success in a competitive field.
But while modeling offered glamour, it lacked the deeper sense of purpose she sought. The turning point came in the early 2000s when she made a bold shift and gave up the fashion runways for the soccer pitch.
This transition was not a casual decision. Terani excelled in mastering ball control, developing a signature training methodology known as the TNT Soccer System, launched in 2012. She also produced a widely circulated video program, Soccer Ball Control with Tasha-Nicole, which helped players polish their technical skills.
Over the years, she achieved eight Guinness World Records, including the most touches of a football in one minute by a female while keeping the ball in the air, and the fastest between-the-legs figure eights. Her feats in speed juggling, ‘137 touches in 30 seconds and 269 in 60 seconds,’ signified her as a technical virtuoso of the sport.
Yet, even as she set records, Terani’s vision extended beyond personal achievement. In 2004, she was appointed as United Nations Special Envoy for Peace through Soccer. Her advocacy found another outlet in 2009 when she founded Every Child’s Dream Foundation 501c3, an NGO dedicated to supporting orphaned and abandoned children.
Next, she plans to expand The Nature and Nurture Book Series in her career to further explore the interplay between human relationships and the natural world. Each future installment will build on her core mission to encourage self-acceptance, encourage empathy, and spark a lifelong appreciation for our planet.
From the fashion industry’s bright lights, to the focused discipline of elite sport, to turning into a celebrated author, emphasizes an essential truth that reinvention is possible at any stage, and the skills we develop in one chapter of life can enrich the next.
